Ruben Amorim to Immediately Get Rid of 2 Man United Players
TribunSkor.com - Manchester United (MU) manager, Ruben Amorim, is reportedly preparing to sell two players in the January 2024 transfer market. He took quick action after experiencing a difficult start with MU.
Ruben Amorim's arrival from Sporting CP was accompanied by high hopes of being able to revive the Red Devils who were slumping in the Erik ten Hag era. The Portuguese coach arrived during the international break, in November 2024.
However, Amorim found everything more difficult than he expected since arriving in England. After being held 1-1 by Ipswich Town in the Premier League opener, MU had to come from behind to beat Bodo/Glimt 3-2 in the Europa League.
MU then beat Everton 4-0 at Old Trafford, before suffering consecutive league defeats to Arsenal and Nottingham Forest.
Amorim tried to take the blame for the 2-3 defeat to Nottingham Forest, Saturday (7/12/2024). He tried to divert public attention from his underperforming players.
"If this happens, it's more my fault, because I'm responsible. We try to do it in the best way," Amorim told reporters after the match.
Behind the scenes, Amorim is reportedly considering getting rid of several players in January. He wants to build a squad according to his needs.
According to Give Me Sport, Amorim is said to be considering selling Christian Eriksen and Antony in January 2025. Both players are known to have high salaries.
MU is reportedly open to selling several players next month to fund buying new players. Amorim needs additional ammunition to compete more competitively in the Premier League.
Eriksen, whose contract expires in the summer of 2025, is not included in Amorim's long-term plans. Meanwhile, Antony has failed to convince the Portuguese coach that he deserves to be kept in the squad.
Eriksen has made 14 appearances this season, with only one being fielded since Amorim's arrival. Meanwhile, Antony has only made seven appearances in all competitions this season.
Eriksen is free to negotiate a pre-contract agreement with a foreign club from the start of January 2025. Manchester United could look to sell him next month, their last chance to cash in.
Several clubs were linked with the Denmark international earlier this year, including Turkish giants Galatasaray. A move to MLS could be another option for the veteran midfielder, as could a return to one of his former clubs, Ajax.
Antony has also been linked with a return to Ajax, with the Saudi Pro League club also mentioned as a potential destination for the Brazilian.
